My initial thoughts on the “Full Color Plastic” from Shapeways:

The material isn’t plastic at all! If I didn’t know better I’d say that this was really full color sandstone. The parts were so brittle that I could easily snap them without adding much pressure at all. 🙁

I assume that it works better than sandstone for print limitations but I think as designers we can only use this material for little statues and one piece things. This material has a LOOONG way to go before I could use it or sell it in place of WSF to my customers. It is definitely not ready for moving parts or snap fit parts.

That said I think it might be cool for miniatures or weapons so long as you don’t need them to flex or have any moving parts or joints…

I wouldn’t use it for head or part replacements either as it’s just too brittle. The parts may be in color but the details are pretty mushy, there is a powdery residue on all the parts, and when I try to rinse it off some of the color comes with it.

For now, we’re much better off just sticking with the white and dyed plastics and painting them ourselves 🙁

I’ll take some pics and do a video for the stuff I ordered in the next day or two.
